The Table Rakers

The top hands:

A top ten percent hand is not the same as a top ten hand. While the "top 10%" generally works well at play money tables, it won't cut the mustard at a cash game. At a cash game "top ten" hands or pocket pairs - sometimes suited connectors if the blinds are low - are all one should ever enter a hand with (aside from calculated risks; gut instinct).

There are two sets of tables that follow. The first is the top 10 hands in poker. The second is the top 10% of hands in poker. This is a significant difference.

The top 10% of hands in poker (roughly 17 different starting hands) are good enough to play on in casual games, among friends, while drinking, or in play money rooms. They will not however, cut it in a real money or competitive game. We recommend the top 10 hands only, but depending on the desired level of risk/reward you like to play with, you might choose to use the top 10% list.

Bear in mind that these are the stats for playing at a 10 person table. The odds are dramatically different in a two person setting. Know your environment. Be aware of whether or not you are playing 1 on 1 in a ten person game, or 1 on 1 in a two person game. These are the stats for a ten person game. Do not confuse 1 on 1 odds with 10 player odds. Notice that even the best hand in poker wins only 1 out of every three hands in this scenario.

Know your environment, know the right odds, and know how to bet accordingly.
